La popolarità di Barack Obama è sempre più in calo. Il sondaggio Ipsos lo dà al 47 per cento, la percentuale più bassa da gennaio. Sua moglie Michelle ha deciso di rimboccarsi le maniche e correre in aiuto del marito per fargli riguadagnare qualche punticino, a suon di uscite pubbliche, foto e immagini che lo ritraggono nella dimensione familiare. Nel frattempo Michelle continua la sua battaglia contro l’obesità e in difesa della buona alimentazione, mentre il marito continua a farsi fotografare intento a mangiare hamburger nonostante il monito dei medici americani. Di recente la first Lady ha anche presentato il libro American Grown, in cui racconta la storia dell’orto della Casa Bianca da lei fortemente voluto e di altri importanti giardini botanici sparsi nel paese.
Proprio l’orto è stato oggetto di sfida tra lei e la moglie di Mitt Romney, Ann, iscrittasi al social network più in voga ultimamente, Pinterest. La moglie dello sfidante di Obama spesso posta ricette di famiglia, come il polpettone adorato da Mitt, o la zuppa di zucca che piace tanto a sua figlia. Michelle, per starle dietro, si è iscritta anche lei su Pinterest, dove posta le immagini dell’orto di cui va tanto fiera, o le foto degli album di famiglia, quelle del matrimonio o delle due figlie.
Giovedì scorso poi, ha portato a cena il marito da uno dei volti più famosi al mondo, Sarah Jessica Parker, la star di Sex and the City. Presenti alla serata di beneficenza organizzata dalla regina della moda Anna Wintour, anche Meryl Streep, Andy Cohen e lo stilista Michael Kors. La padrona di casa, seduta a fianco di Michelle, ha esordito dicendo che non vede l’ora di sapere cosa farà Obama per la nazione nei prossimi quattro anni, ma poi l’attenzione degli invitati si è spostata sulla vita familiare all’ombra della Casa Bianca. Obama ha scherzato sui ruoli, dicendo che «nella gerarchia della Casa Bianca sono al quinto o al sesto posto, dopo la Michelle, le figlie Malia e Sasha, il cane Bo e la suocera». Ha poi sottolineato di essere grato a sua moglie, perché «ha sostenuto con grazia e forza il difficile ruolo di First Lady, mantenendosi la miglior mamma che si possa immaginare al mondo e questo mi rende orgoglioso».
